Hello, and thanks for checking in.
We're excited about the release of a very special new CD, Melissa and the Green Blanket. I have been privileged to work with my wife Julie, our son Bennett, and our good friend David Moon on this project.
The story, written and told by Julie, is about a little girl with a very special blanket. My guitar underscores her narration, and David Moon's illustrations tell the story in pictures. Follow along in the enclosed 24 page booklet as you listen, or watch the QuickTime movie on your computer! In addition to the soundtrack, I have included two guitar solos, Melissa and Appalachian Lullaby. PDF files of the notation and tab are right on the CD, so you can learn and play the music for your family.
Noted author Peter S. Beagle calls Melissa "a delightful package of words, music and illustration that will charm all those who cherish their own green blankets, as well as those who love them." Renowned guitarist Guy Van Duser writes "I've been waiting for a story as well-told and as musical as this ever since Chet Atkins and Amy Grant recorded The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat!" (Read Guy Van Duser's full review of Melissa here.)
But Melissa is more than just an uplifting story with positive values- it's also an opportunity to expose your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other special young folks in your life to guitar music- fingerstyle guitar music.
We mailed AGW Vol 12 No 2 in late summer. This issue features my arrangement of If (the 1971 hit by Bread), the conclusion of Rick Allred's arrangement of Saint Louis Blues(based on Chet Atkins' classic 1950's recording), some great licks from Chet's 1966 album Music From Nashville, My Home Town, and my arrangement of the old gospel favorite I'll Fly Away. (If you're not a subscriber yet, be sure to check the AGW page while you're here.)
Until next time,
